Peter Finn will always be remembered for his very unique and ingenious achievements. He built the little HA36 Power Unit on a two-axle trolley and connected it to the first traction motor to pull both trucks out from under the jacked-up locomotive. He also built the very effective nail-picker on the back of one of the Dempster-dumpsters trucks. We borrowed two spare rectangular magnets from Cold-Mill Electrical and hung them on the hoist arms. That unit prevented a lot of flat tires by picking up Stemco slitter scrap spilled on the roads. When it was first placed in service it also picked up man-hole covers.!!! Peter also built a Power unit using a 2-71 DD engine coupled to a spare Crompton-Parkinson generator placed on top of Manitowoc derricks when their magnet generator was out of service. He made that top unit self-fuelling by running the Cummins engine fuel return line up to supply the power unit.
