Obituary for Ernest Brian Kozak

Kozak, Ernie
May 7, 1943 – October 9, 2019

After a brief and brave battle with cancer, Ernie passed away peacefully at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on October 9 at age 76. Ernie leaves behind his wife Judy of 57 years, his sister Nancy (Frank), his four children Susan (Mike), Steve (Lynn), Jeff (Kim), and Brad (Nancy), and 13 grandchildren (Adam, Natasha, Aleksa, Sara, Dawson, Adam, Madeleine, Conrad, Duncan, Gavin, Jacob, Maxine and Charlotte). Ernie’s generosity was unparalleled. It would take volumes to capture his unique life. Ernie overflowed with positive energy and his capacity to give was without bounds. His family and friends were privileged to live alongside him and his passion to get the most out of each and every day. He set the bar high and challenged us to come along for the ride. Ernie was the life of the party. He had a 40+ year career in steelmaking and was a Trillium award-winning gardener. He exercised daily, and loved the Leafs, NFL football, golf, travelling with Judy (particularly to Myrtle Beach) and soaking up the sun. Remarkably, he started painting just recently and created many beautiful pieces; one of his many lasting legacies. Ernie will be deeply missed by so many. Special thanks to the staff at Bob Kemp who were wonderful. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the hospice. Visitation will be at the P.X. Dermody Funeral Home at 796 Upper Gage on Tuesday October 15 from 6pm to 9pm. Interment to take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Stoney Creek on Wednesday morning at 11am.
