Obituary for Sr. Petra Klotz, SSND

KLOTZ, Sister Petra, School Sister of Notre Dame


Died at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown on July 24, 2019. She was 94 and had celebrated her 75th anniversary as a School Sister of Notre Dame.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Katherine (Ollenberger) Klotz, her brothers, Peter, Paul, Adam, Arthur, Philbert and Leo and her sisters, Sister Josine Klotz SSND, Margaret Ziebart, Eva Klotz, Phyllis Bolstad, Elinor Robinson and Anastasia Leibel. Lovingly remembered by the members of her religious congregation, especially her niece, Sister Valentia Leibel SSND, her sister, Alice Conly and other relatives.

The schools in which Sister Petra taught included: Sacred Heart, Mildmay, Notre Dame, Welland, St. John, Hamilton, Sacred Heart, Ladner, BC, St. Charles, Mearns, AB, St. Agnes, Edmonton, AB and Sacred Heart, Walkerton. From 1967 to 1970 she was principal of St. Louis School, Waterloo. Her missionary spirit took her to Lima, Peru where she was involved in pastoral ministry until 1982. She then moved to northern Ontario to the Ojibway community on the Grassy Narrows Reserve. In 1985 Sister Petra was pastoral associate in Kerrobert, SK. From 1988-1992 she served as parish administrator in Fort Resolution, NWT. Before retiring to Notre Dame Convent in 2008 Sister Petra lived in Unity, SK where she was a teacher’s aide and was involved with St. Peter Parish community. During her years of retirement Sister Petra used her creative gifts in a variety of ways.

Visitors will be received at Notre Dame Convent on Friday, July 26 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-8:00pm. Prayer service will be held on Friday afternoon at 3:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 27 at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
