Obituary for Milka Kastelic

Kastelic, Milka

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Milka Kastelic, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, in her 82nd year. Predeceased by Vid, her dear husband of 53 years. Loving mother of John, Diana and (predeceased by) son Tom. Dear Mother-in-law to Karyn and Samantha. Cherished grandmother of Kristy & Katie, Jamie & Joey, whom she adored. Milka was predeceased by her elder sisters Ivanka and Mara, and brothers Anton, Stanko, Ivan and Frank. Milka was a devout Catholic, who gained much strength from daily mass on tv, especially when facing life's challenges. She derived so much joy from all her flowering plants, and also had unparalleled skills in baking and cooking, crocheting and sewing, which she greatly enjoyed. In 1959 she bravely journeyed alone to stay with relatives in Cleveland, where she was warmly welcomed by many cousins and the thriving Slovenian community there. She met her sweetheart Vid, married, and began a fulfilled life in Hamilton with him and the strong family they raised together. Milka always said Canada was the best country in the world. She will be greatly missed by friends and extended family in Hamilton, Australia, Ohio, and Slovenia. Special thanks to those who cared for her over the last few years, when she determinedly stayed in her own home until the end. Visitation will be held at P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Avenue (at Mohawk Rd. E.) on Monday, June 3rd from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Prayers will be said on Monday at 8:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary RC Church, 20 Idlewood Ave, on Tuesday at 10am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Mud Street, Stoney Creek.
