Obituary for Mary Ellen "Mamie" Grady (Kavanagh)

GRADY, Mary (Mamie) (nee Kavanagh)

Mom returned to the open arms of our dear Lord on January 7, 2019, in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband James Grady, her son Jerry Kavanagh, her grandson Rory Grady, and her daughter Elaine Jenkins (David). Mom was a proud parent to all of her children, Robert Grady, Barb Truckel (Bob), Jim Grady (Rose McTiernan), Gary Edward Grady, Linda Welton (Mark), Kevin Grady and Mary Grady. Grandma to Mary Lynn and Shelley Kavanagh, Vanessa and Jamie Truckel, Gregory Hall (Ashar), Rosheen and Alannah Grady (Andrew), Mark Grady- Garcia, Colin Grady, Ryan Grady and Amanda Welton. Great-grandma to
Hunnter-Ray and Bodhi Hall. Mom was born in Calvert, Newfoundland on December 19, 1923. She took pride in her Newfoundland heritage. She will be missed "On The Rock", especially by her sister, Anne Puddister, and her brother, Bill Kavanagh, as well as many other relatives and friends. Mom's devotion and dedication to each and every one of her children went beyond measure. We were truly her life's work and now it is time for her to rest. You only had to meet Mom once, and you knew immediately what kind of very special lady she was. Beautiful memories will continue to fill out hearts - the smell of her homemade bread, those yummy baked beans she was famous for, the warmth of her smile, her respect for others, and her door was always open to welcome visitors to her already busy table. Through all her struggles, no matter whose hands touched Mom's, everyone said the same thing - "That Mary is such an angel!" Our family wish is to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all staff at Macassa Lodge C2-East for taking such good care of Mom over the last few years. We will always love you Mom and we miss you already. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave.) on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Parish - Our Lady of Lourdes Site (416 Mohawk Road East, Hamilton) on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. In honour of Mom's memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society, 1575 Upper Ottawa St., Unit #700, Hamilton, Ontario L8W 3E2. Online condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com
