Condolence From: Erik and Stacia D'Souza
Condolence: Our deepest condolences go out to you Auntie Merl, Darrell, Rachel, Daniel and family. When I think of uncle Toddy, I think of him forever smiling, telling a joke, and calling me a “silly goomba”. I also think of his elephant paintings. I was always amazed by his ability to capture the essence of such a majestic animal; they must have been kindred spirits. Like Elephants, I’ve always thought of uncle Toddy as larger than life, stoic, and having an unbreakable family bond. I miss you Uncle Toddy, but every time I look at one of your paintings I'll see you and remember all my cherished memories of our time together.

Condolence From: A.Anthony Fernandes
Condolence: Fare ye well Toddy ! Gentlemen and king amongst men . In deepest empathy with cousin Merl D'Souza nee Mascarenhas , children Darryl, Rachel ,Daniel and families and the clan Mascarenhas /D'Souza Hard to accept how quickly this final voyage flew by ,just months after we saw you here in London ,little knowing it would be the last time. The first sight of a longish haired Toddy in his 'saffron coloured ' 'hippy' coloured drawstring pants , circa May 1973 in front of Fernandes Guest House Calangute Goa will always remain emblazoned in one's memory . He was 25 and in his prime . My Aunt Melvyn and Uncle William (Willy ) both deceased had invited my Dad Luciano ,Mum Joyce , brother Leo (all since deceased) and myself to visit with the Mascarenhas family ,those halcyon summer days ,when Goa and Calangute moved to the pace of a much slower drummer ! He had travelled along with his brother Anthony and Bossie ( Bosco) and perhaps others across the overland so named Hippy Trail across Turkey ,Iran, Afghanistan etc to Goa , a route that would soon become almost impossible especially after the Soviet's invaded Afghanistan .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippie_trail Kind and caring to a fault , humble and unassuming , yet quietly king of his own counsel and castle Rest ye well, good Sir ! May we strive to emulate the life you lived so well Valhalla beckons !

Condolence From: Stephen, Janet and Meaghan D'Souza
Condolence: Dear Auntie Merl, Darrell, Rachel, Daniel, Patricia, Sam and Anna, Our deepest condolences. While far away, we share in your sadness and cherish our memories. Uncle Toddy has been a towering figure throughout my life. In childhood, I fondly remember arriving after a long road-trip from Montreal to the warmth and laughter of Toddy's embrace. He was always so welcoming and kind, even when I was an obnoxious teen. The day after our wedding, Janet's family held a get-together of family and friends. When we got their late in the morning, the house was overflowing with people, but no one noticed we had arrived. They were all focused on Toddy in the backyard with a guitar across his knee, leading them in songs. It felt like so many summer bar-b-ques in our backyard. Last year, Toddy and Merl came to visit us in Vancouver. He immediately hugged us like it hadn't been more than a decade since we had seen each other. Meaghan, then 10-years old, was swept into his warmth and laughter. Uncle Toddy will always be close to our hearts. Love, Stephen, Janet and Meaghan

Condolence From: Savio Da Silva and Family
Condolence: With deepest sympathy to you Merl, Darrell, Rachael and Daniel at this very difficult time. My dearest Godfather (Mum and Dad knew what they were doing!), you have featured in my earliest fond memories and while I’m writing this with great sadness, a smile keeps appearing when I think how you showed me to live life to the fullest. My memories of your love will always be with me. From spending weekends with you and Merl in your Colindale flat as a young boy, to your supporting me as a 15-year-old teenager in Canada, to the last time we met when you volunteered to get in the boot of the taxi from the wedding (Dawn is so glad she finally got to meet Uncle Toddy and Merl). Memories of you that will live in my heart forever. I will try to take your shining example and use it now with my own family but believe me when I say this world is a sadder place without you. Deepest love Savio and family x

Condolence From: Xavier Desouza
Condolence: Dear Merl, Darrell, Rachael and Daniel, We are so sorry to hear about Uncle Toddy. He was a lovely man and will be sorely missed by all. Such a happy personality, with the ability to command and light up a room. His infectious smile and kindness filtering through everyone he met. One occasion last year I remember how happy and satisfisfied he was to have his family and and new grandchildren in his life. He was saying how he hadn't cleaned the house or mown the lawn for ages just so he could spend as much time as he could with the little ones. I will take that forward with me forever as it is not the menial, material things in life that matter. It is the quality time and moments shared with your family that really hold any meaning. We are so thankful we were able to spend time with him at the wedding and will always hold fond memories of that time. Take care and stay strong. All our love Xavier and Louise xxx

May the precious Son of God Bless you'll and give you'll the strength in this your time of need and grief. Some of our fondest memories of Toddy include a road trip to Myrtle beach for a vacation and several trips to Woodland Cottages in Cambellford, Ontario, with all the extended family where we had lots of fun and will remember it with fond memories. Toddy was an avid fisherman, throughly enjoyed our fishing adventures, he taught me to put the ''bait on the hook'' Toddy was a remarkable cook too, his mince curry recipe is one we use often and will always be one of our ''go to recipes'' We thank The Lord for Toddy's life to us, a truly genuine and easy going man, and our thoughts and prayers are with you'll and your family. As in Toddy's lingo- '' Lets mosey along'' until we meet again. Rest in Peace Toddy. Love, Denzil Yhuela and Tyler Mascarenhas

Condolence From: Matt and Charlene Henkelmann
Condolence: Uncle Toddy's presence and ability to put everyone at ease with his care, respect and the biggest heart will be immensely missed. Every time we have a family sing-a-long and thumb pluck the guitar, simply tell a good joke "zackly" the right way or ungawa...we will hold his memories close. Aunty Merl, Darrell (Patricia, Sam and Anna), Rachael and Daniel - we hope that during this time, you feel our love, support and prayers regardless of distance. That was one of Uncle Toddy’s strengths – maintaining relationships and taking every opportunity to support family/friends. We will never forget the efforts made to attend our wedding in California and every time we’ve returned back to Canada, it’s like no time passed at all. From another multi-talented, humourist musician Victor Borge - "A smile is the shortest distance between two people". We are so blessed to have Uncle Toddy as part of our lives and his smile certainly brought us all closer together (Matt esp. felt welcomed into our family by his gracious demeanor and sharp wit). We will continue to keep smiling, celebrating Uncle Toddy's beautiful and joyous journey until we meet again on the last day. Love, Charlene and Matt

Condolence: Dearest Merl, Darrel and family, Rachel, and Daniel, Sharing in your sadness as we remember Uncle Toddy. There was never anyone quite like him. His zest for life, family, song and travels will always stay with us, especially the long drives to Las Vegas, Arizona and Los Angeles and in our younger days to Florida. Like I mentioned by his bedside last week he was an anchor to our family, and not only an uncle but like a brother and friend who we were so close to and blessed to share our lives with. Dearest beloved Uncle Toddy, we will miss you immensely and always cherish the memories of all the times we spent together. Until we meet again, may your soul Rest In Peace. Now we know you are no longer in pain and have taken your place as another angel in heaven with my mum. Love,💕 Shannon and Lilian D’Souza

Condolence: Dear Merl, the children Darrell, Rachael and Daniel, Toddy's brothers and sisters the grandchildren There are no words we can say that will ease the pain. There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone; And there is a light we cannot see; Our Father claims his own. Beyond the gate our loved one Finds happiness and rest; And there is comfort In the thought That a loving God knows best
