Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer, on September 12th at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Gary Lloyd Ashbaugh, in his 75th year. Beloved husband of Jacqueline for 50 years, and loving father of Jason. Survived by his beloved brothers Grant (Marj), Peter (Janie), and predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Connie Ashbaugh (Howison), sister Eleanor Leslie (Bob) and father and mother-in-law John and Jane Roach. Loving Uncle to Lisa Owens (Jeff), Trish Henatyzen (Shaun), Paula Glubish (Richard), Debbie Riddell (Derek), Betty Ann Martin (Randy), and Daniel Vaughan (Haryeong) and their families. Gary is a retired Sergeant with the Hamilton Wentworth Police Service and was a devoted member of the Hamilton Police Retirees Association and Police Chief’s Advisory Committee. Gary was an avid landscaper and maintained the Retirees Memorial Garden at Central Station. In retirement, Gary enjoyed golf, gardening, and most especially travelling with Jackie as they escorted many fun-filled bus trips with Fun Trek Tours. A special thank you to Dr. Shargall for his terrific care and to Christina Davino for all of your care and help during this difficult time. Gary will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave., on Thursday, September 14th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, September 15th at 1pm. Entombment to take place at Our Lady of Hope Mausoleum, Resurrection Cemetery.
